Settings

   The section of Settings allows us to change the configuration of our blog.

What can we modify?

   Blogger gives us a wide variety of settings which result useful for our best experience and administration of the blog. It goes from simple things like the URL, to more complex things like search preferences. This options are organized into 6 categories.


  • Basic: On this tab you can modify the most simple things of your blog, like its title, description, privacy, adress, editors and readers.
  • Posts and comments: On this tab you can modify the amount of comments shown on the main page, their location, who can comment, the comment moderation, the comment security and comment form. This allows you to have more control on what is posted on the comment's section. This way, you can avoid, or not, spam and offensive or undesirable material.
  • Mobile and email: On this tab you can change the options for posting through a mail. You can also add a notification every time a comment is written and send your posts to contacts by adding them on a list.
  • Language and formatting: On this tab you can choose the language of your blog, enable or disable transliteration, set a Time Zone and the format that dates and hour have on your blog.
  • Search Preferences: On this tab you can create the custom pages for any error on your blog and custom redirects (get sent to a URL when other is missing). Moreover, you can edit custom robots.txt, so people can find your blog more easily.
  • Other: On this tab you can import, export or delete your blog and put a warning of adult content. There are some other options.

What else should we consider about Settings?

   Nothing of what is done here will be saved unless you click on Save Settings, on the top right corner of the screen. It's important to remember this, as nothing you modify is kept if you don't update correctly your settings this way.

Template Designer

   The section of Template Designer allows us to choose and edit the template that our blog will have.

What is a template?

   A template is a pre-developed page layout that is used in the blog, to give it a structure, a mold and a pattern.

What templates can we choose?

   Blogger offers us a long list of layouts classified into 7 different categories. There's a total of 34 templates. This can be seen on the tab Templates.


What can we edit from the chosen template?

   There is a lot of possible modifications to do for our page layout. That's why they are classified into 4 parts.


  • Background: On this tab you can modify the background image, either by uploading one or by choosing one from the ones that blogger offers us. We can also change the main color theme of the blog. This is the set of colors that are used for the text, background, and other details.
  • Adjust widths: On this tab you can adjust the horizontal length of your blog, and the width of the sidebars. 
  • Layout: On this tab you can modify the structure of your blog. This is one of the most important parts because this is the layout that is modified and edited at Design. Here you can choose a body and footer layout. This includes the header, sidebars, cross-columns and footer columns.
  • Advanced: On this tab you can personalize each detail of the blog. You can change sizes, colors, font types, backgrounds and links. There is also a special tab, named as Add CSS, which allows us to overwrite any style of the template by writing our own code of CSS there.
What else should we know about Template Designer?

   Nothing of what you test or change on this section will be saved unless you click on the button which says Apply to Blog, on the top right corner of the screen. Moreover, you should bear in mind that the template for the computers (Live on Blog) and cellphones (Mobile) should be similar so people recognize it's the same blog when they change their electronic device.

Design


The section of Layout allows us to add, remove and edit gadgets on the blog.

What is a gadget?

   A gadget is a small mechanical device or tool, especially an ingenious or novel one.

What gadgets can we add, remove and edit?

   Blogger offers us a list of predesigned gadgets by Blogger, but it also allows using other gadgets from the internet or to upload one yourself. Each one can be added to different columns of the blog's structure. However, to change the columns you must use the Template Designer.

What else can you do on Layout?

   You can also change the Favicon. This is the small picture or icon that is shown on the browser for the blog's tab. The predetermined favicon is the famous B from Blogger.
